The commercial building in Hannover is a historical structure from the 1880s, one of the first
steel constructions of its time. Originally featuring a pure glass and steel facade, this was
replaced with a sandstone facade around 1900. During the war, the building was damaged and
subsequently rebuilt without a roof truss. Over the years, it underwent multiple renovations
with little regard for preserving the original structure, which led to numerous damages.
However, through careful planning, it was possible to restore the building's dignity and bring
it up to the latest technical standards. From the basement to the first floor, a sophisticated
restaurant called Vapiano was established. Above this are an office floor and a sports medicine
practice. A completely new penthouse level was added, designed with curved glass and a
wraparound terrace.
The staircase was completely replaced and supplemented with an elevator.
Through this successful redesign, new life was breathed into the historical building, allowing
it to assert its place in modern times.
